2"–8" cobble
What is cobble?
Cobble is large, naturally rounded river rock ranging from about 2" to 8". Keep in mind it isn't a shiny decorative stone. It can look gray and dull, and some of the larger pieces may be broken with rougher edges.
It's a favorite for dry creek beds, borders, banks and drainage swales where you want rock that looks great and handles water. Because the stones are large, plan on placing them by hand or with equipment.

Cobble questions
Most stones range from about 2" up to 8" across, with a mix of sizes in between. It's natural river rock, so shapes and colors vary from load to load.
Cobble is naturally rounded river rock with a smooth, decorative look. Riprap is angular, so it locks together and stays put better on steep slopes and in fast-moving water.
It can help in landscape areas and gentle swales. For steep slopes, culverts and fast-moving water, angular riprap holds better because the pieces lock together.
Round rock is river rock that's been smoothed by water, so it stays loose, drains well and has a natural look. Crushed rock has sharp, fractured edges that lock together and compact into a firm surface for driveways and pads.
